The Plate Model
It's about balance
The Plate Model is a general guideline as to what a plate of food might look like to achieve balance in macros. If someone is eating a meal that is mixed together (like a soup or stir-fry, for example), it's difficult to follow exactly. The general rule of thumb however is for the majority of the meal to be non-starchy vegetables (1/2 the plate), 1/4 of it to be protein, and 1/4 of it to be starch. In addition, it might be challenging to do this for breakfast as it's unusual in the standard American diet to get veggies for a morning meal. If possible then, the goal would be to achieve this balance at the lunch and dinner meals, with maybe some additional veggies scattered in between as snacks.
